John David Williams
JD is a native Georgian and Dunwoody resident who joined the Stage Door Players staff for the 2008-2009 season. He got his start designing lights at South Georgia College in Douglas after a childhood misspent tinkering with all things electrical without even once starting an accidental fire.
Previously JD has served as technical director for Galaxy Music Theatre and lighting director for Neighborhood Playhouse. JD has also designed shows for Onstage Atlanta and Macon Little Theatre. He has received numerous design awards around Atlanta since moving to the area in 1990. His first design for SDP was for Wrong Turn at Lungfish. Favorite shows here include Master Class, Pippin (co-design with Michael W. Magursky), Private Lives and I Hate Hamlet. Other designs include Dream Girls and Smokey Joe's Cafe with Galaxy Music Theatre, Angels in America, K2 and Titanic (in concert) at Onstage Atlanta, Into the Woods and Singin’ in the Rain at Neighborhood Playhouse.
JD is also a percussionist, and has played in the pit for several shows here at SDP. He has previously been seen and heard performing throughout the Southeastern US in major malls, parades and wedding receptions from Charleston, SC to Jackson, MS with The Seed & Feed Marching Abominable. He also works with direct marketing databases and is "an expert" in arcane USPS Postal Regulations. "Thanks to Mike and Tom, without whom much of this would not happen. Thanks to Reid for 18 wonderful years."
